where:
V – volume in dm3 (litres)
P – overpressure in bars – allowable overpressure specified by the manufacturer or setting overpressure of the safety valve
and overpressure > 0.5 bar

Required technical documentation
A technical description for every item of pressure equipment reported(form).
The content of the technical description should be consistent with Section 4(3)(1) of the Regulation of the Minister for the Economy, Labour and Social Policy of 9 July 2003.
Documents specified in provisions on CE marking provided by the manufacturer of the reported equipment or of the assembly comprising the equipment, if a final conformity assessment is conducted upon installation. For equipment manufactured before 1 May 2004, documents indicated in technical specifications agreed with the competent technical inspection authority. The documents should contain elements relevant for assessing the initial safety level of the equipment. Declarations of conformity for individual system components are helpful here. If an assembly is subject to conformity assessment, a declaration is necessary to identify its limits.
A drawing for every item of pressure equipment reported, specifying the nominal and minimum wall thickness of the main components, especially the shell and bottoms, and listing the materials used to make this item of equipment, or another document containing this information, as agreed with the Office of Technical Inspection (Urząd Dozoru Technicznego, UDT).
A description of the selection of safety accessories together with documentation, taking into account power sources (selection is not required for equipment subject to a final conformity assessment as an assembly).
An operating manual for every item of pressure equipment reported.
The content of the operating manual should be consistent with Section 5 of the Regulation of the Minister for the Economy, Labour and Social Policy of 9 July 2003.
The above documentation concerns also equipment put into operation once again, in which case it may be modified on the basis of qualification tests carried out for such equipment.
Non-pressure and low-pressure vessels used for storing poisonous or caustic materials
Equipment subject to technical inspection
Non-pressure and low-pressure vessels (with overpressure not exceeding 0.5 bar) used for storing poisonous or caustic hazardous materials are subject to technical inspection if the substances and chemical preparations were classified as hazardous (very toxic, toxic, harmful or caustic) under separate provisions.
Exceptions:
- vessels used for transporting poisonous or caustic materials subject to requirements set out in separate provisions,
- holding vessels not used for storage,
- packaging used for storing and transporting poisonous or caustic hazardous materials referred to in separate provisions,
- factory packaging of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment,
- articles and equipment containing caustic materials, especially dry and wet electric cells and vessels with caustic charges in foam extinguishers,
- vessels for radioactive materials.
Forms of inspection and deadlines for tests
Type of working medium in the vessel | Vessel volume V < 60 dm3 | Vessel volume 60 dm3≤ V < 1 m3 | Vessel volume 1 m3 ≤ V < 5 m3 | Vessel volume V ≥ 5 m3 |
very toxic | S | L | F | F |
toxic | S | L | F | F |
harmful | S | S | L | F |
caustic | S | L | L | F |
Explanations for the table: In the columns presenting volume, the letters have the following meaning: S – simplified technical inspection L – limited technical inspection F – full technical inspection Operating permits are not issued for equipment subject to simplified technical inspection. |
Required technical documentation
Technical documentation issued by the manufacturer (to the extent specified in Section 42 of the Regulation of the Minister for the Economy of 16 April 2002).
Certification from the manufacturer of the vessel that the vessel was manufactured and tested in accordance with technical documentation and conditions set out in the licence to manufacture. This certification should be issued also by the installer if the vessel is installed on site.
A description of operation, together with data on accessories and power sources (application).
A diagram of connections to compatible equipment.
Data on corrosion protection, including a description of a cathodic protection system for underground vessels, if it is to be used.
A vessel location plan, showing where the vessel and related equipment are located, for vessels located in buildings.
A vessel location plan, taking into account the location of nearby buildings and equipment within a distance of 10 m, for vessels located outside buildings.
A report on leak tests for lining or protective coating, if such tests are required for the technical documentation.
A vessel operating manual provided by the manufacturer (for vessels ready for use) or prepared and/or supplemented by the operator.
The above documentation concerns also equipment put into operation once again, in which case it may be modified on the basis of qualification tests carried out for such equipment.
Non-pressure and low-pressure vessels used for storing flammable liquids
Equipment subject to technical inspection
Non-pressure and low-pressure vessels (with overpressure not exceeding 0.5 bar) used for storing flammable liquids are subject to technical inspection if the following criteria are met:
vapour pressure at 50 °C < 3 bar
flash point not exceeding 61 °C
the substance is not entirely gaseous at 20 °C and a standard pressure of 1.013 bar (101.3 kPa).
Exceptions:
vessels in power supply systems for vehicle combustion engines, •vessels with a volume not exceeding 1 000 dm3,
vessels used for transporting flammable liquids,
holding vessels not used for storage,
vessels used for storing flammable liquids in quantities necessary for the needs of the entity storing these liquids, especially canisters and drums,
disposable packaging used for storing and transporting flammable liquids,
non-pressure and low-pressure vessels with a pressure not exceeding 0.5 bar (50 kPa) used for storing poisonous or caustic hazardous materials.

Technical Inspection
The main scope of UDT ’s activity is technical inspection of equipment that may pose risk to life, property or environment and is conducted in accordance with the act on technical inspection.
Each technical equipment is designed and manufactured in such a way as to minimize the risks associated with its operation to the level of acceptable risk. In the EU, this is regulated by the regulations implementing community directives. However, in the operation phase, when the equipment is in the hands of particular persons, when it requires ongoing maintenance, and its individual components are subject to wear, hazards may arise.
Technical inspection is defined by the act and is aimed at the safe operation of technical equipment.
Technical equipment posing a threat to human life or health and to property or environment, by expanding liquids or gases under increase of pressure, releasing potential or kinetic energy when moving people or loads within a limited range and spreading hazardous materials during their operation, storage or transport is being subject to technical inspection.
UDT as an inspection body meets the requirements of EN ISO / IEC 17020: 2012, which is confirmed by the accreditation certificate No. AK 001, issued by the Polish Center for Accreditation.
